Abstract

This capability study integrates a CYC X1 Pro Gen 4 mid-drive into the BSA 73 mm bottom bracket of a 2024 Cannondale Habit HT 2 hardtail, targeting 5,000 W peak and 250 N·m through a Box Two Prime 9 drivetrain hardened for electric load. The energy system is dual-source: a 72 V 15 Ah 20S3P pack of Molicel P50B cells for burst current, and a custom 72 V 20 to 25 Ah triangle pack for range, combined to 35 to 40 Ah through an active discharge balancer.

The operating environment is the Richmond and Vancouver metropolitan region, where rain, coastal corrosion, river silt, and mixed-surface routes drive the sealing and corrosion countermeasures: sealed connectors, drip loops, and strain relief throughout. The build keeps the battery and wiring inside the frame triangle, so the platform reads as an ordinary hardtail rather than a visible conversion.
